The information about the handshake protocol changing below was incorrect. Here is an update from our State Interpreter: Sorry for the confusion about the fist bump. The information I originally gave you about leaving after the first players reach the end of the line was incorrect. We must stay to observe the handshake until the last players shake hands at that point we may leave. As it says in today's e-mail there is no mention of a fist bump in the protocol. If you have any questions please give me a call. Again I apologize for the confusion. TRI-> So the first pump at the end with players and coaches is optional, but the observation is not. 2018-19 basketball season
Re: MIAA Handshake Protocol Update
The protocol for the post-game handshake is to observe the handshake until the first player in line gets to the end of the opposing line. Officials are not to stay for the “fist bump”, and if they choose to do so, they will be violating the protocol. This protocol will be updated on the MIAA website as soon as possible. This only applies to game governed by the MIAA. |
