IAABO #175 is always looking for individuals who want to become a Basketball Official


Each fall IAABO #175 welcomes a new member class.  If you have ever considered officiating basketball, we urge you to contact us.  Its a great way to stay involved with a sport that was invented in our own backyard.  We welcome men and women who live in Nobscot Valley and or Metrowest MA ( Ashland, Dover, Framingham, Holiiston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Maynard, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Natick, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Stow, Sudbury, Wayland, Weston) and are 18 years old by Nov 1 of the year they want to officiate.  Candidates will have to pass a written rules exam and a practical floor test.  


New Member Process:

1) If you are interested in taking the classes you may start on your own by taking the classes independently through IAABO University (Click the High School link).  The cost of the class is $50 and if you pass you will need to pay the additional $150 in dues which will complete your registration with IAABO #175, the national association and provide insurance for your duties as an official.


2) You should also reach out to sectres@iaabo175.org  for additional Information and to answer any questions you may about the process and what It's like to be a basketball official.


3) Participate in Floor Training before December 1.  Reach out to sectres@iaabo175.org upon completion of the course to participate in our floor training.  This is where signal mechanics, floor positions and referee management will be tought.  For this portion you will want to invest in the uniform including black slacks, MA IAABO Referee Shirt, Whistle, Lanyard, black socks and black sneakers.  The average cost for a full uniform is around $150-$200
